I was once asked in a job interview, "If you could compare yourself to an animal, what would it be?" I quickly answered, "An eagle." The interviewer asked, "Why?" I went on to explain, "An eagle is an intelligent animal, plus it has the capability to soar high above and beyond with the ability to stay grounded." The interviewer then said, "I have asked that question for over 20 years and I have never heard someone choose an eagle nor answer in that way." WOW! I was feeling like I wanted to pop my collar just a little bit and I was grateful that I had prayed for wisdom to say that right things in the interview. Needless to say, I was offered the job and I accepted. Praise God! Why did I share this story? In addition to feeling like an eagle, I began to study the eagles even more and saw where they are extraordinary animals. A writer once wrote, "The eagle represents freedom. Living as he does on the tops of lofty mountains, amid the solitary grandeur of Nature, he has unlimited freedom, whether with strong pinions he sweeps into the valleys below, or upward into the boundless spaces beyond." This quote supported my previous answer about eagles exactly.
We should all have the ability to stay humble, but we should continue to soar and move higher in bringing to life our visions, dreams, and goals. The infamous scripture Isaiah 40:31 says. "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint." This means we have the choice to rise above people, circumstances, conditions, and situations. Did you know that eagles like the storms and already know when a storm is approaching? They actually prepare for them; they are able to soar and rest their wings in the midst of the storms while their fellow members in the bird family are taking cover and hiding. For instance, when a storm hits, the eagle will set its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storms are raging down under, the eagle simply soars above it; so, the eagle does not escape the storm, but uses the storm to its advantage to go higher. Amazing! This lets me know that we should be resting with the assurance to know that with God on our side, then who possibly can be against us. We should not be afraid to try new things because we fear failure or what someone else will say. Who are you to dim your light because someone else cannot handle it? Frankly, that is not your problem. Continue to soar like eagles and watch your visions, dreams, and goals become a reality.
I challenge each of you today to close your eyes and see yourself as an eagle soaring high above all the challenges that you may face today. Always remember: "Everything around you is subject to change."
